Abstract: Objective This paper analyzes the prescriptions for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in ancient literature, and explores the application rules of prescriptions, so as to provide reference for the clinical treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Methods The prescriptions for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in ancient literature were collected, and the database was established by Excel 2016, and the frequency analysis was carried out. The association rules and hidden structure model were analyzed by SPSS Modeler 18.0 software and Lantern 5.0.Therefore, the regularity of the treatment of knee osteoarthritis in ancient literature was discussed in multi-dimension. Results A total of 373 prescriptions and 421 kinds of traditional Chinese medicine were collected, with a total frequency of 3894,the highest frequency is Angelica, the drug effect is mainly tonifying deficiency, relieving surface, expelling wind and dampness, the drug is warm, the drug taste is mild, sweet, bitter, and more return to spleen and kidney channels. A total of 13 strong association rules were obtained from the analysis of association rules, among which Chuanxiong + Achyranthes Radix → Angelica rhizome, Dioscorea rhizome → Achyranthes radix Rhizome were stronger.A total of 10 hidden variables were obtained by hidden structure analysis, and 4 comprehensive clustering and 4 core prescriptions were inferred according to the knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine. It is inferred that the common syndromes in ancient literature are rheumatic knee arthralgia syndrome, wind-cold-damp knee osteoarthritis, rheumatic heat knee osteoarthritis, qi and blood deficiency knee osteoarthritis. Conclusion The treatment of knee osteoarthritis in ancient literature takes expelling wind and dehumidification as the core strategy, while taking into account both deficiency and evil according to the classification, and flexibly use drugs such as tonifying spleen and kidney, clearing dampness and heat, tonifying qi and blood and so on.
