Abstract: The complex pathological mechanisms and multifactorial etiology of acute kidney injury (AKI) pose significant challenges to traditional diagnostic approaches. Current diagnostic criteria relying on serum creatinine (Scr) and urine output exhibit inherent limitations, including insufficient specificity and delayed sensitivity, particularly in complex clinical scenarios. This article reviews the biological characteristics and clinical utility of emerging biomarkers—such as soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (suPAR) and proenkephalin (PENK)—to address the shortcomings of conventional biomarkers in AKI diagnosis.
