Abstract: Septic kidney injury (SAKI) is a common critical illness in intensive care units, and its prognosis is worse than that of patients with sepsis or acute kidney injury (AKI) alone. To date, there are no specific clinical, imaging or biochemical indicators for the diagnosis of SAKI. Therefore, early diagnosis and prognosis are very important for SAKI patients to take necessary treatment measures in time. Proenkephalin A 119-159 (penKid), is a member of the enkephalin family, which has been found to be elevated in patients with SAKI, and is associated with prognosis. Therefore, this article reviews the physiology of penKid and the relationship between penKid and SAKI, and further expounds its clinical application value.
