Abstract: Studies have confirmed that PAX1 can activate phosphatases and inhibit multiple signaling pathways, thereby affecting the processes of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of tumor cells and leading to the occurrence of various tumors. PAX1 has a relatively high level of methylation in cervical cancer tissues and can serve as a potential screening marker for cervical cancer. The methylation level of PAX1 has been proven to vary among different cervical lesions and has the ability to distinguish between high-grade cervical lesions and normal tissues. The combined detection of human papillomavirus and the PAX1 methylation level is an effective cervical cancer screening protocol and can triage high-risk patients. This article reviews and discusses the current diagnostic and triage roles of PAX1 methylation in cervical cancer.
