Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Intervention Effects of Baduanjin on Chronic Nonspecific Low Back Pain

  Abstract: Objective: To systematically evaluate the intervention effect of Baduanjin on chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP).Methods:Databases including PubMed,Web of Science,CNKI, and Wanfang. The risk of bias in the selected studies was evaluated independently by two researchers. Meta-analysis was carried out using RevMan 5.4 software.Results: Ten randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 848 participants in total were incorporated.Meta-analysis showed that Baduanjin group had a significant effect on the pain intensity than controls MD = -0.99, 95% CI (-1.24, -0.73), P < 0.00001, reduced lumbar pain symptoms Z=10.42, P < 0.00001, improved anterior flexion function MD = -3.28, 95% CI (-4.47, -2.09), P < 0.00001 and reduced dysfunction index MD = -4.93, 95% CI (-6.20, -3.66), P < 0.00001. Conclusions: The intervention of Baduanjin for chronic nonspecific low back pain demonstrates definite clinical efficacy in relieving pain intensity, reducing low back symptoms, improving forward flexion function, and decreasing disability index.
