Meta-analysis of Comparison between the Effects of Fenestration and Curettage on Jaw Cyst.

    Abstract: Objective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of fenestration versus curettage for treating jaw cyst by means of meta-analysis. Methods The following electronic databases as PubMed, The Cochrane Library, CNKI,CBM, VIP and WanFang Data were searched on computer from inception to June, 2024, and the references of all selected studies were also retrieved to collect all the randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on fenestration versus curettage for treating jaw cyst. The reduction rate of capsule volume, hyperosteogeny thickness, and bone mineral density level at 3, 6 and 12 months were analyzed. Then meta-analysis was performed using RevMan5.4 software and mean deviations (MD) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated. Results Finally, forteen publications were included. The difference in the reduction rate of capsule volume, hyperosteogeny thickness, and bone mineral density level between the two groups at 3, 6 and 12 months after surgery is statistically significant. Conclusion Our study suggests that fenestration is superior to curettage for treating jaw Cyst,especially in terms of the reductionrate of capsule volume, hyperosteogeny thickness, and bone mineral density level.
