Abstract: Parkinsons disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder, and non-motor symptoms such as overactive bladder (OAB) significantly impair the quality of life of patients. The mechanisms underlying OAB in PD involve the interplay between gut microbiota imbalance and neuroinflammation. Studies have shown that PD patients exhibit reduced gut microbiota diversity, with a decrease in beneficial bacteria and an increase in pathogenic bacteria. This imbalance affects the central nervous system through the gut-brain axis, promoting neuroinflammation and α-synuclein aggregation. Furthermore, alterations in the gut microbiota can lead to intestinal barrier dysfunction, neurotransmitter imbalances, and immune system activation, all of which influence autonomic nervous control of the bladder and exacerbate OAB symptoms. This review summarizes the research progress on the interplay between gut microbiota imbalance and neuroinflammation in the context of OAB in Parkinsons disease.
