Changes of lipid peroxidation and antioxidant capacity in patients with hypercholesterolemia

  Abstract: objective? To investigate the changes in lipid peroxidation and antioxidant capacity in patients with hypercholesterolemia, and demonstrate that hypercholesterolemia may cause vascular endothelial damage.Methods 100 hypercholesterolemic patients were selected as the case group and 80 with normal blood lipids were used as the control group? to determine malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), glutathione reductase (GR) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) in the serum of all study subjects.Results Compared? with control group, MDA was significantly increased in serum, and TAC, GR, and GSH were significantly decreased. Conclusion The hypercholesterolemia patient has lipid peroxidation, which may cause vascular endothelial cell damage.
