Abstract: Dietary fiber can influence bone metabolism through short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). Bone metabolism refers to the continuous process of bone resorption by osteoclasts and bone formation by osteoblasts, which maintains the dynamic balance and normal structural function of bones. This process is also affected by intestinal calcium absorption. Dietary fiber can promote the production of SCFAs in the gut, and SCFAs can regulate osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and calcium absorption, thereby further modulating bone metabolism. Currently, the mechanisms linking dietary fiber, SCFAs, and bone metabolism are not fully understood and require further scientific research and exploration. This review summarizes the correlation between dietary fiber and bone metabolism and delves deeper into the mechanisms by which dietary fiber affects bone metabolism through SCFAs, aiming to provide new strategies for related research and clinical practice.
