Abstract: Background: China is in an important intersection period of rapid Internet developing and deepening aging. It is of great significance to promote the elderly to gain Internet dividends and promote health improvement. Objective: To understand the current situation of Internet use and loneliness level of the elderly, and to explore the influence and characteristics of Internet use on loneliness in the elderly of different ages. Methods: Using the data from China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey in 2018, multiple regression analysis was used to explore the impact of Internet use on the loneliness in the elderly and the moderating role of age, and the propensity score matching method was used to control the estimation deviation of the model. Results: The effect of Internet use on the loneliness of the elderly was affected by age (,), for the elderly under 70 years old, Internet use could significantly reduce the loneliness of the elderly, but for the elderly aged 70 years and over, Internet use had no effect on the loneliness. Conclusion: With the increase of age, the role of Internet use in reducing loneliness in the elderly will gradually weaken. Among the elderly, the role of the Internet is closely related to the development of the Internet era. The earlier the Internet intervention goes on, the more it can help the elderly form the habit of using the Internet, so as to give full play to its positive role in reducing the loneliness of the elderly and improving their physical and mental health.
