Abstract: After undergoing total hip arthroplasty(THA), patients frequently endure moderate to severe pain, compromising their comfort and postoperative recovery, and potentially leading to a range of complications. Ultrasound-guided regional nerve block, as a component of the multimodal analgesia strategy following THA, is gaining increasing recognition for its role in postoperative pain management. In recent years, the erector spinae plane block(ESPB) has emerged as a novel analgesic technique that is being progressively adopted in THA. This article summarizes the characteristics of postoperative pain following THA, explores the current application and efficacy of the ESPB technique in this field, analyzes its potential limitations and future development directions, and offers a theoretical basis for clinical practice to optimize pain management protocols after THA surgery.
