Analysis of influencing factors of depression in AIDS patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment based on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)

  Abstract: Objective: To understand the current situation of depression and medical and social support in HIV/AIDS patients undergoing hemodialysis, as well as the effect of medical and social support on depression, so as to provide certain references for reducing the occurrence of depression in the population. Methods: From March 2022 to March 2024, 40 research subjects of HIV/AIDS undergoing hemodialysis in our hospital were collected. The Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) and the Medical Social Support Scale (MOS-SSS) were used to assess the depression and medical and social support of the patients. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the relationship between medical and social support and depression. Results: Among the 40 research subjects, 21 (52.5%) showed depressive symptoms (CES-D score ≥ 16). The results of univariate analysis showed that health status, antiviral treatment status, and medical and social support had an impact on HIV depression (P < 0.05). Simple linear regression showed that health status (95% CI: - 9.901 ~ -2.635) and antiviral treatment status (95% CI: - 12.969 ~ -3.394) were influencing factors of depression (P < 0.05). The total score of medical and social support, the tangible support dimension, the information and emotional support dimension, the social interaction and cooperation dimension, and the emotional support dimension were associated with depression (P < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that medical and social support was negatively correlated with depression (standardized effect value was - 0.223). The higher the medical and social support, the lower the incidence of depression. Conclusion: The prevalence of depression in the admitted AIDS patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment is relatively high, and the medical and social support has a positive effect on alleviating their condition.
