Abstract: Objective To investigate the awareness condition and influencing factors of health knowledge among elderly diabetic patients in Dongcheng District of Beijing. Methods A total of 2228 diabetic patients elderly 60 – 70 years old in Dongcheng District of Beijing were selected as respondents by cluster sampling from November 2020 to December 2021. A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate their knowledge about chronic diseases and diabetes, and the influencing factors were statistically analyzed. Results The awareness rate of total knowledge was 57.27% (1276/2228). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that different educational levels, occupations and medical insurance forms had effects on the awareness rate of the respondents, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.01). The occupation of the respondents is related to the knowledge awareness rate. The items with low awareness rate of chronic disease-related knowledge were correct statements about exercise and wrong statements about drinking, with awareness rates of 58.12% (1295/2228) and 28.64% (638/2228), respectively. The item with high awareness rate was the food that patients with chronic diseases should eat less, which was 90.98% (2077/2228). The item with low awareness rate of diabetes-related knowledge is the control target of type 2 diabetes, which is 55.92% (1246/2228). Conclusion The overall level of health knowledge of elderly diabetic patients in Dongcheng District of Beijing is low. It is necessary to strengthen health education and take comprehensive intervention measures to improve the awareness rate of knowledge and control the occurrence and development of diabetes.
