  Abstract: The automatic question answering system of TCM is an intelligent knowledge question and answer system ,which constructed by introducing natural language processing, semantic network, knowledge mapping, automatic question and answer, information retrieval and other technologies and based on the language system of TCM and combining the knowledge of experts in the field of Traditional Chinese medicine.The automatic question answering system consists of three parts: question comprehension, information retrieval and answer return.Among them, question understanding is the key link of the automatic question answering system.This paper mainly introduces the research on the understanding of the question in the automatic question answering system of Traditional Chinese medicine, including the pretreatment of the question, the classification of the question, the extraction and expansion of key words and other methods, and puts forward the question model suitable for the automatic question answering system of traditional Chinese medicine, so as to improve the accuracy of the understanding of the question.
