Abstract: [Objective] Numerous epidemiological investigations showed that physical inactivity was a risk factor for the insulin resistance-related disease (IRRDs), many experimental studies on kinesiology showed a close causality between physical activity and insulin sensitivity. However, a medical cognition of this causality has been lacking in the IRRDs theory of basic medicine. [Methods] Applying a three-level theoretical method, it is fully demonstrated that there is a definite, even approximately linear, causal relationship between physical activity and insulin sensitivity. For the need of demonstration, several new medical concepts are proposed in this paper. [Results] The combination of three levels of theoretical studies fully demonstrates the existence of a definite, even approximately linear, causal relationship between physical activity and insulin sensitivity. [Conclusions] Physical inactivity is an important cause of insulin resistance and IRRDs. This new understanding will strongly promote the integration of basic medical research and prevention/treatment practice of IRRDs with kinesiology.
