Abstract: Based on the CHARLS2011 baseline data, the validity of the self-rated health indicators of the elderly population in China was studied by using Hierarchical Order Probit model. The results show that the self-rated health index of the elderly in China is influenced by the characteristics of social population and social economic status, and there is cut-point deviation to some extent, ignoring this bias in some studies can be misleading. But older people are less affected by their socio-economic and demographic characteristics than are middle-aged people, and after asking objective health questions, the cut-off point shift of self-rated health indicators in the elderly group were also significantly improved. Therefore, in general, the validity of the self-rated health indicators in China’s aging survey are good, and the basic health status of the elderly can be measured stably and accurately, attention should also be paid to the estimation and control of such errors to improve the accuracy of research results.
