Abstract: Objective: To examine the intergenerational transmission of health status, health behavior, and health knowledge based on family health cycle theory, and to provide a basis for health-related policies. Methods: Based on CHNS 2015, multinomial logistic models, ordinary logistic models, and OLS models were used to examine the intergenerational transmission of health status, health behaviors, and health knowledge. Results: Mother’s BMI was significantly associated with offspring’s BMI, children whose mother was overweight or obese, had a higher relative risk ratio of being overweight or obese (RRR=3.45,95%CI:1.29, 9.23;RRR=3.06, 95%CI: 1.16, 8.08); mother’s self-reported health status was significantly associated with children’s self-reported health status (OR:5.46, 95%CI: 3.94, 7.56; OR: 7.82, 95%CI: 4.37, 13.99). Mother’s healthy food preference score and physical activity score were significantly associated with children’s healthy food preference score and physical activity score respectively (β=0.28, 95%CI:0.18, 0.37; β=0.33, 95%CI: 0.24, 0.42); mother’s health knowledge was also significantly associated with children’s health knowledge (β=0.60, 95%CI: 0.50, 0.71). Conclusion: Intergenerational transmissions of health status, health behaviors, and health knowledge are significant among Chinese people, precise health promotion should be carried out in family units and pay attention to parents and offspring simultaneously.
