Integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine treatment of insomnia in hospitalized elderly patients

    Abstract: Objective To analyze the traditional Chinese medicine prescription of Danyuan Decoction in the treatment of elderly hospitalized patients with insomnia. Methods Based on the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, combined with the elderly constitution and clinical symptoms, the etiology and pathogenesis of hospitalized elderly patients with insomnia and the meaning of Danyuan Decoction were analyzed. Danyuan Decoction was selected to treat a case of hospitalized patients with insomnia. The diagnosis and treatment process was described in detail and the medical cases were evaluated. Results Qi and blood attenuation, old age and body deficiency are the core etiology and pathogenesis of hospitalized elderly patients with insomnia. In clinical practice, due to insomnia symptoms such as insufficient sleep time and depth, the chief complaint is “increased frequency of nocturia, dry and thirsty at night”. Based on “Synopsis of Golden Chamber”, Suanzaoren Decoction combined with Shengmai Powder formulated Danyuan Decoction can replenish Qi and blood, replenish Qi and nourish Yin, and warm kidney Yang. Combined with “Lingshu”, the relationship between dream and pathophysiology was elucidated. Through the patient s dietary preference, assist and guide the addition and subtraction of clinical drug flavor. Combined with the law of Yin and Yang principals of the human body, choose the time to serve. Combined with decoction, pills, oral liquid; internal and external treatment complement each other. On the basis of syndrome differentiation and treatment, combined with pharmacology use Western medicine improve nocturia and sleep if necessary. Conclusion Danyuan Decoction on the treatment of elderly hospitalized patients with insomnia curative effect, worthy of popularization and application.
