Research on privacy issues of genomic data and privacy preserving techniques – A survey

  Abstract: Genomic data provide important information about the vital characteristics of organisms. Recently, the development of second-generation sequencing technology allows widely use of sensitive genomic data in medical science field. Also, it generates the problem of privacy leakage of genomic data in the process of data collection, storage and analysis. Research shows that individuals can be re-identified in specific genomic data given some background information. Therefore, how to maximize utility of genomic information while protecting sensitive information is the main focus of this article. Our study focuses on the privacy issues related to human genomic data. We also discuss related privacy preserving techniques such as homomorphic encryption, federated learning, etc.
